It’s starting to sink in. As I prepare to leave for our Team River Runner Grand Canyon adventure, I’m reading a riveting book, No Barriers, by Erik Weihenmayer. It includes photos of our trip organizer, Lonnie Bedwell, the first blind person to kayak the Grand Canyon; and Steve Baskis, who I will help guide through the Canyon.

Many people have asked me how a blind person can possibly solo kayak the raging Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. I tell them we’ve been training for this and we have a system of teamwork in place. Don’t underestimate what anyone with a disability can do.

Writing about No Barriers, perhaps world-renowned outdoor adventure writer Jon Krakauer said it best: “An inspiration to other blind people and plenty of us folks who can see just fine.”— Jon Krakauer, New York Times bestselling author of Into Thin Air.

I am truly honored to be part of this epic two-week adventure. Read more at www.teamriverrunner.org
