Earlier this week, before holiday crowds stormed the campgrounds, we headed north for a two-day camping trip to Wisconsin’s Marinette County (plus a brief hop over the border into Upper Michigan). Our goal: hike to as many waterfalls as we could see, which turned out to be 12. Most of them were running at high water levels, making for great video and photos. I didn’t have my whitewater kayaking gear along but it was fun to return to some places I have kayaked (Piers Gorge) as well as one (Dave’s Falls – Lower) I don’t expect to kayak. Ever.

Amazing climbing ability for a retired person!

Mary demonstrates which path she prefers.

Life is good when you have an adventurous partner to share it with.

The campground at 12 Foot Falls County Park was practically empty on a warm Monday evening.
Coyote Campground near Stephenson, MI was also nearly empty, but the owner said they would be full over the Fourth of July weekend.

  1. Hi there. This is a beautiful post. And, well, an inspiring one, especially when you mentioned having an adventurous partner to share life with. My wife and I also plan to visit Marinette County Waterfall. I loved that you included some photos, giving me ideas of what kind of adventure is waiting for us. Can you suggest easy access to these waterfalls? Are there some birds and wildlife in the area?
