The Peshtigo River was running big last weekend — about 1,100 CFS or 18″ on the bridge gauge — perfect water for Pesh Fest hosted by Kosir’s River Rafting near Silver Cliff, WI. Matt Walker, Justin Peterson and I agreed to get there early Saturday for a “practice run.” We didn’t intend to compete in the race but we did volunteer to be safety boaters for the race that afternoon. Jesse Credille asked us to station at the bottom of First Drop, one of the two gnarliest features on the river (the other being Horserace). It was a great place to witness the afternoon carnage. Thankfully there were no major injuries (that I know of) although it’s a safe bet that some rafters and kayakers took home souvenir bumps and bruises. Here’s my video. Thanks to Josh Flom for sharing his video clip from shore at Horserace.

Thanks to Michael Koppenhoefer for these photos.
