Mary and I paddled across Green Bay today. Our total distance was about 19 miles. 9.76 miles from the east side of Green Bay to Suamico in 2 hours and 30 minutes with a brief rest stop in the shadow of the Green Bay Harbor Entrance Lighthouse. After lunch at Sunset Beach Park, our return leg was on a direct heading of 90 degrees in a time of 2 hours and 10 minutes.

The harbor tower in the middle of Green Bay is an impressive 75 feet tall. After the Coast Guard took charge of the country's lighthouses in 1939, Green Bay Harbor Entrance Lighthouse was typically staffed by a couple of coastguardsmen who lived in the circular portion of the tower, serving alternating duties of two weeks on and two weeks off.

We landed at Sunset Beach Park in Suamico and enjoyed a picnic lunch before the return leg.

We enjoyed a slight headwind on the first leg across but during the return trip, pictured here, it was dead calm and hot.
