I was asked to not share this news until today. If you’ve been following posts about my experience with Team River Runner’s Grand Canyon trip (The First Three Days and Day 4, Part 1), you may remember I mentioned we had a photo/video crew accompany us during our 12-day whitewater kayak journey. Today I have permission to reveal that the media crew was shooting for Google Maps! And today they have released a film, a set of Google Street Views, and a 360 video.

Here’s the 4-1/2 minute film from Google Maps that captures the essence of what this amazing trip was about. For me, this video brings back feelings of excitement, joy and comradery I experienced on this extraordinary adventure.

And here’s a 360 video that lets you choose your viewing angle. Join blind veteran Lonnie Bedwell in 360 as he follows veteran guide Russell Davies through technical whitewater in the Grand Canyon.

Be sure to check out the 27 Google Street Views posted from the trip by clicking on this link.

Also, here’s a Google Maps blog post from Lonnie in which he explains what our Grand Canyon adventure means to him.

By the way, the Google Maps media crew included some of the world’s most accomplished, outdoor adventure video shooters and photographers, including James Q Martin and Brett Lowell.

Here are a few screenshots from the video “5 blind veterans kayak the Grand Canyon, documented in Street View” by produced by Google Maps.
